Damien Foundation | Projet Nigeria | Short tubercolisis Portrait: Cured, but broken
Ibrahim Kareem
Ibrahim is counting down. In another five days, after four long months, he will be allowed to leave the hospital and continue his treatment for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis at home. Ibrahim is proud of how far he has come, and is keen to tell us about it. But he is quickly overcome by emotion, especially when he speaks about his job.
Ibrahim was a builder, but had to stop when he became too weak. When he tells us that he probably won't ever work as a builder again, he begins to cry.
Ibrahim has been cured, but, mentally, still has a very long way to go.
